A ‘Client Capture’ at South Devon Bass Guide Ltd for one of my (Marc Cowling) clients called Tom. Achieved within the backdrop of a sleepy south Devon creek many miles inland, this fantastic bass of 4.5lb was ‘spotted’ alongside another, larger bass, swimming in amongst copious numbers of mullet.
But through my guidance and Tom’s natural ability, the Megabass Sleeper Craw claimed yet another trophy fish – one that was safely released as always. Here’s the full story, aided by actual footage of the capture, in addition to the tactics and methods associated to it.
“What really stood out for me during the sessions was Marc’s ability to adapt. He’s pioneered some fascinating techniques that can be applied in almost any conditions, and throughout the trip he had all three of us fishing methodically and with purpose.
Under his guidance, I cast a creature bait to the edge of the mullet and bass and began a retrieve as instructed. I realised I was effectively ‘sight-fishing’ in much the same way I’d fished for trout on the chalk streams of Hampshire. In my opinion, fishing doesn’t get more exciting than this!
Aside from catching what felt like a fish of a life-time, I learned a huge amount from Marc over the course of the weekend – knowledge and techniques that I’ll definitely carry forward into my own fishing. I’ve no doubt I’ll be back again before long!”
