My Client Catches – Expect the Unexpected…

It sounds or reads a little ‘cliché’ I agree. Genuinely, I get more of a thrill out of assisting and then witnessing one of my clients hook into, land, and subsequently release a bass than I do actually catching one myself – which if you consider that I will never tire of catching them, says a lot……..

Leading on from a post that I wrote for my sister website/blog (Marc Cowling – Bass Lure Fishing) detailing the attributes of the Patchinko 125, here is yet another example of this wonderful lure – one that catches no matter what the overhead conditions are seemingly…

The session in which the sublime (albeit somewhat ‘mauled’ by a seal presumably) bass in the featured image and below was landed is an excellent example of just how special these captures are, from both the client and the guide’s perspective. At 63cm, this fantastic bass came close Ben’s PB – a milestone he had only recently achieved at 65cm on his native Essex waters, again, via the use of the ‘Patch 125…

Ben’s 63cm bass (his 2nd largest, hence the great big smile!) that ‘nailed’ the Patchinko 125 at extreme range, during a session when many I suspect, would consider the conditions as far from ideal. Never say never where a bass is concerned!

It would be fair to say that the overall ‘conditions’ were against during the first session of this 3 Day Package – one that been pre-arranged to occur at this particular time of the day well advance. A strong easterly wind, a tiny Neap Tide being suppressed by the High Barometric (Air) Pressure, crystal-clear water, and a Sun that was roasting us from about as high in the sky as it gets greeted us. I had my work cut out make no mistake!

See you next year I hope! And stay away from Seals!

In my view, there really are no boundaries when it comes to catching bass on lures – if they are there, it is my job to find a way to latch into one. What this of course means is that I have to ‘make do’ with the cards that I am dealt, and then overcome what is before me/us – all of which is detailed within the ‘Overcoming Adversity’ Chapter of my third book: Bass Lure Fishing – A Guide’s Perspective (Volume 2).
